Steffani Jemison

In her work across media, Steffani Jemison explores ideas of improvisation, repetition, and the fugitive in black history and vernacular culture. Her recent work approaches privacy and opacity as strategies of abstraction and political resistance. Jemison holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2009) and a BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University (2003). Recent exhibitions and commissioned performances include Jeu de Paume (2017), CAPC Bordeaux (2017), MASS MoCA (2017), Nottingham Contemporary (2017), the RISD Museum (2015) and the Museum of Modern Art (2015). Steffani Jemison lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
